For example H8120, means:

Depending on the facility, there can also be further information about the time of day the product was manufactured.
The rule of thumb is that your Black Gold® potting soils and amendments are best used within twelve months of manufactur. If you have Black Gold® potting soil and amendments that are over twelve months old, they can still be used but you will want to add supplemental fertilizers at time of use.
If you are going to store peat moss for more than one year it is best to tape any holes in the package and tarp the product. This is mainly done to maintain the integrity of the packaging and prevent mold from growing on the plastic. Peat moss within a sealed package does not deteriorate in quality over time if stored properly. If you get mold on your package, you should wash it off with soap and water.
Fertilizers, if stored dry and under moderate temperatures, will be good for several years. Please refer to the fertilizer side panel for more details on each fertilizer package.
In addition to producing a quality product, we perform extensive tests to assure the quality that we manufacture. Records and samples are kept from each batch produced, and every bag or bale filled should have a code number stamped on it. It is our policy to record these numbers on bills of lading and/or invoices for our distributors in order to track the product. This information can be very useful if a question arises as to the quality or freshness of a product.
We strongly urge distributors, dealers and consumers of Black Gold® to record these numbers on their own invoices or storage records. This is in case any questions or concerns arise about your Black Gold products.
